Which Garage Door Opener Brands Do You Repair?

If your opener needs to be replaced, our technicians carry LiftMaster and Genie models on our trucks for fast, convenient replacement. We’ll also help you choose the right opener based on your garage door’s size and weight and the features you want, so you get the best fit for your home. No matter what, we’ll get your garage door back up and running as quickly as possible.

How often should I have my garage door serviced?

Your garage door is the largest moving part in your home and is typically used every day. Over time, garage door parts can wear out and break, creating potential safety problems.

Although you should perform monthly safety checks and maintenance to your garage door system, an annual Tune-Up from a trained garage door system technician can keep your door operating safely and smoothly for a long time.

Which garage door springs do I have?

You have either torsion springs or extension springs. You’ll see torsion springs located above your garage door mounted on a metal tube/shaft and they have cone-shaped ends. Extension springs run along the tracks on both sides and usually have looped ends.  See comparison images and find out more: https://www.precisiondoor.net/torsion-and-extension-springs

When Should I Get My Springs Replaced?

Your garage door’s springs are arguably the most important and most dangerous part of your door. Springs wear out over time. When springs break, injury can result.

If you have an older garage door, have your springs inspected by a professional technician and replaced if needed. If your door has two springs, a trained service technician should replace both, even if one is not broken. This will not only prevent any damage caused by the breaking of the second spring but also keep your door working efficiently.

Most springs are rated for about 10,000 cycles. Precision Garage Door installs only the highest quality springs that are rated for up to 30,000 cycles.

Remember, springs are under very high tension, and adjustment or repair should only be performed by a garage door professional.

When Should My Cables Be Replaced?

Visually inspect the cables that attach the spring system to the bottom brackets on both sides of the door. If these cables look frayed or worn, they are in danger of breaking, which can cause injury. Due to the dangers associated with high spring tension, these cables should be replaced only by a trained technician.

What other dangers should I be aware of?

Your garage door is one of the largest and heaviest moving parts in your home. A few simple checks can improve safety, catch issues early, and help you avoid more costly repairs.

  • Test the auto-reverse monthly: Place a 2×4 on the floor under the door and close it. The door should touch the wood and reverse.
  • Check the safety sensors: Keep the photo-eyes clean, aligned, and free of obstructions.
  • Keep kids away from controls: Store remotes out of reach and don’t let children play with the door.
  • Never walk under a moving door: Wait until the door is fully open before passing through.
  • Don’t DIY springs or cables: These parts are under extreme tension—leave repairs to trained professionals.
  • Watch for warning signs: Loud noises, jerky movement, frayed cables, or a door that won’t stay open are signs it’s time for service.
