It turns out the opener worked after I requested the service call. I was very impressed with my technician, Cody. He was polite, he checked everything several times just to make sure nothing was wrong with the opener. Sorry I had to shell out the $$ but that's life.

Also, the tech Rick Jones only had to listen to the door opening and knew exactly the cause of the problem and immediately replaced the incorrect part.
